the oban Collective

We believe in collaboration, not competition.

The Oban Collective works with partners to respond to local needs - to strengthen community wellbeing, sustainability, and opportunity.  The partnership grew from the Connecting Communities Collective project, which was built on the understanding that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts; because by working together, we can better use resources, share learning, and reach more people in our communities.

Working together builds a stronger community

Our partnership approach helps us respond more effectively to local needs, develop joint initiatives, and build stronger relationships. This has resulted in our flagship project, Re_Store.   More than a charity shop- it hosts our Rescued Food Project, along with running sewing and repair workshops. We regularly host and run events focussing on sustainability and community.

Our Approach

The Collective was created because the partners recognised that many of the  challenges facing people locally - poverty, isolation, food insecurity, employability,  energy costs, wellbeing and access to support - are interconnected. By working  together, organisations could coordinate activity, reduce duplication, share learning  and resources, and provide more joined-up support for local people.

Our Accomplishments

We're very proud to be recognised for our achievements. In 2024, we won the Innovation Award from the Scottish Power Foundation. In 2025, we won the 'One to Watch' award from Social Enterprise Scotland.

Since opening, Re_Store and the Rescued Food Project has saved approximately 15 tonnes of clothing and 45 tonnes of food from landfill. More than 1,500 people have attending workshops or events we have organised and our wonderful team of volunteers have generously given us more than 13,000 hours of their time.
