About the Oban & District Development Trust

For a thriving, resilient and self-determined community

Oban and District Development Trust was set up to empower local people to shape a stronger, greener and more prosperous future for Oban through community ownership, local enterprise and community-led development.

AGM

The AGM of the Oban & District Development Trust will be held at 6.30pm on Thursday 24th September 2026, venue tbc.

About the oban & district development Trust

Our mission

Oban & District Development Trust was established following a series of local workshops focussed on Community Wealth Building. It is a new organisation officially set up in 2025 to lead the community buyout of the Re_Store shop building . The ODDT is focussed on building community wealth with a spirit of collaboration, not competition. ODDT will do this by creating new opportunities, developing existing ideas and giving voice and support to positive initiatives that better Oban and North Argyll.

The ODDT successfully purchased the Re_Store shop building at 113 George Street in Oban in February 2026, thanks to support from the Scottish Land Fund. This means the building is now a community asset and the future of Re_Store shop is secure.

how the Oban & District Development Trust works

Community Wealth Building

Community Wealth Building

Community Wealth Building

The Trust is rooted in the principles of Community Wealth Building (CWB). CWB runs through  our work as a ‘golden thread’.  This provides a framework that seeks to retain wealth in local  hands, build local power, and ensure that economic development works for everyone. The five  pillars of CWB - plural ownership, local financial power, fair work, progressive procurement,  and the productive use of land - form the foundation of this Trust’s vision and practical work.

Community Empowerment

Community Wealth Building

Community Wealth Building

The Oban and District Development Trust is a tool for local people to take ownership of their  future. It’s not about outside agendas or top-down decisions - it’s about empowering our  community with the resources, voice, and structures it needs to lead its own renewal.
